Sri Lanka — Ceylon — has been celebrated for its sapphires for more than two thousand years.
Most of the island's gems are found in the gem gravels around Ratnapura — literally "city of gems" — and across the south-west of the island.
Ceylon sapphires are known for their brightness and for blues that run from soft cornflower to deep royal. Sri Lanka is also the traditional home of the rare pink-orange padparadscha.
Many sapphires are gently heated to improve colour — a long-established practice. We disclose any treatment in writing, and can offer unheated stones on request.
Principal stones can be supplied with a report from an independent gemmological laboratory, confirming origin and any treatment.
